Crazy Cousins
Isn't family just the best?!? At the end of April, we were treated to a visit from my sister (aka, Fairy Godmother) and her kids. It was Fairy Godmother's first visit since returning from China and the first meeting of the cousins for Little Weed #4. The cousins were so excited to meet #4.
Big Boy cousin is 6 months older than Sweet One. Prior to this visit, he enjoyed Sweet One, but spent most of his time with my boys, especially Dr. Jiggles. Darling Diva cousin is 2 years younger than Sweet One and a girl. The two of them are typically joined at the hip, and I worried that the extra attention #4 might receive from both excited cousins might be more than Sweet One could successfully handle. Both Fairy Godmother and I had prepped all of our kids on the need to share each other, not be envious of the initial excitement of meeting and spending time with #4, and to watch out for the feelings of any siblings or cousins who might feel excluded or ignored. Either we did an awesome job prepping the kids, or it was simply completely unnecessary. There was about five minutes worth of intense excitement surrounding meeting #4, and then everyone just fell into their natural cousin play groove -
as if it hadn't been over a year since they'd seen each other,
as if there hadn't been a unique addition of another whole person,
as if they'd all been family since birth.
Watching it really underscored for me that "family" goes so much deeper than DNA.
P.S. Isn't Fairy Godmother so wonderfully multi-talented???
