To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is
a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or 100
Good Wishes Quilt. It is a custom to invite friends and family to
contribute a patch of cloth with a wish for the baby. Part of the patch of
cloth goes into the quilt for the baby, and the other part of the cloth can go
into a creative memory notebook with the wish for the child. It is said that
the luck, prayers, and good wishes from all of the families and friends who
contributed surround the child when he is wrapped in the quilt. The quilt is
then passed down from generation to generation. While Samuel is not a baby, we
want him to know that we celebrate his life and welcome him into our
family. And we hope he will be able to
cuddle up with his quilt and learn what it feels like to be wrapped in love.
I had such a great time looking at each piece of fabric that was selected, praying for the family that sent it, and compiling the Good Wishes book that accompanies the quilt. I love the finished product, with all its flaws, and hope Samuel loves it too.
Thanks to all who contributed!

LOVE IT! Mia loves looking through her book and finding the matching square on her quilt all the time. What a treasure it will be for Samuel.
